The Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 is among the best smartwatches for Android users, but is it waterproof? For years, smartwatches on both sides of the Android and iOS spectrum have offered some sort of water resistance that enables users to keep them on their wrists for a longer time. Modern-day smartwatches come with different ratings, including IP, WR, and ATM. The manufacturer ultimately decides what type of device requires what extent of water resistance, but for smartwatches meant to measure water-based workouts, an IP68 rating is the industry standard.

The Galaxy Watch 6 and Watch 6 Classic feature an IP68 water and dust resistance rating. Per the official press release, the smartwatch can withstand submersion up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes in fresh water. This makes the watch an ideal partner for swimmers who like to count their laps and keep a record of their workouts. In addition, users can wear the smartwatch while working up a sweat, in light rain, or while washing their hands. The watch's IP rating suggests that it's entirely resistant to dust, which adds to the overall durability.

Along with the IP68 rating, Samsung Watch 6 and Watch 6 Classic are 5ATM water-resistant. This means that the devices can withstand pressure of five atmospheres, the unit of atmospheric pressure. Technically, the rating also means that the Watch 6 should be able to survive the water pressure 50 meters under the surface. Still, the company advises users against exposing it "to water at high pressure levels." Nonetheless, users should rest assured that the latest smartwatches offer the best water resistance in a smartwatch that isn't meant for deep water sports, like the Apple Watch Ultra.

Like the Watch 5 series, the Watch 6 lineup also comes with a military-grade MIL-STD-810H certification, assuring it can withstand difficult environmental situations like rain, wind, shock, etc., unsuitable for other electronic devices. Samsung hasn't left any stone unturned in making the Galaxy Watch 6 and Watch 6 Classic as durable as possible, so buyers can use them without hesitation for a significant time. The Apple Watch Series 8 offers a WR50 water resistance and an IP6X rating for dust resistance.

Samsung's latest smartwatches offer added protection with Sapphire Crystal glass on the top.
